Seasonal Showers: New Life Through the Storms

S

Over the last several weeks, the weather in southern Indiana has been nothing short of depressing. Save a few anomalous days of warmth and sunshine, it has been cold, cloudy, and often extremely wet. I feel like Morgan Freeman’s character in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves when he looked to the sky and screamed, “IS THERE NO SUN IN THIS CURSED COUNTRY!” The dark, damp, drear of recent days has a...

Let the Light Shine In

L

Out in front of my house, there is a streetlight. A few years ago, whoever is charged with the upkeep of said streetlight installed a new light bulb. I don’t know the wattage on the new light bulb, but the company that produced that particular light bulb deserves some sort of award (a medal, a cookie, a cuddle… something). They have functionally harnessed the light of the sun itself! It is, quite...

Take a Nap; Eat a Snack; Carry On.

Many people, myself included, have taken to calling our shutdown in the spring “The Great Pause.” As we have moved through the summer, efforts have been made to reintroduce greater levels of activity into society at a variety of levels. There is no denying, however, that the world isn’t quite as busy as it was before the muddy mess of 2020. The constant state of wait-and-see has greatly limited...

ALONE: The Struggle in Social Distance

Survival shows are extremely popular in the Myers household. Of all of the shows available to us on the wonderful worlds of HULU and Amazon Prime, ALONE is without a doubt our favorite. The basic idea of the show is 10 people are taken out to some wilderness and dropped in a secluded location where they will have to survive all by their lonesome. The only contact they have with the outside world...

Light at the End of the Tunnel

L

2020 has been a banner year, and the hits just keep coming. I mean, there have seriously been overly dramatic movies that have contained more realistic and tempered plot-lines than what we have experienced thus far. Much like many of you, I am trying to keep it positive. I am doing my best to see the proverbial “silver lining.” I’m working hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but at...

Life Is Hard… Grace Is Sufficient

L

“Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. Then the worms eat you. Be grateful it happens in that order.” I don’t really know who David Gerrold is, but I’m grateful for this quote that is attributed to him. While it certainly presents a painfully dark and narrow view of life, there are times when it paints a fairly accurate picture of the struggle I feel in my heart. For any...

Months of Mondays

M

I was greatly amused by a meme I recently saw while scrolling through Facebook. It was a simple white background with words over the top. It read, “We are 5 months into 2020 and it’s still January.” Though we have turned the page on the calendar and made our way into February, the slow slog still continues. My daughter made a profound assessment of the last month and change. As we prepared for...

For Now; Not Forever

F

The shift in seasons is finally in full swing. Just a few short weeks ago, it was blazing hot here in southern Indiana, with temperatures in the 90’s. Many of us were beginning to wonder if the hot and dry weather of late summer would ever pass. As I made the trek to my frost covered truck the other day, I found myself lamenting the chill in the air. While I love the snow, I’m not looking forward...
